The average driver has about 44 lessons. Some need more, some need less. If you can practise privately then you'll reduce the number of lessons needed and progress quicker.
The driving test lasts between 38 - 40 minutes. During this time you will need to demonstrate that you can drive to a safe standard in different road and traffic conditions and show that you know The Highway Code by the way you drive.
You can drive immediately after your test providing you have an insurance policy that allows you to drive unsupervised.
You may want to consider improving your driving skills further by taking Pass Plus. This is 6 hours of driver training on the motorway/dual carriageways/night driving/town driving and rural roads.
